Kairos Palestine – a Christian Palestinian cry
Kairos Palestine is a Christian Palestinian ecumenical movement, born from the lived reality of suffering, steadfast faith, and the longing for justice. The Kairos Palestine movement raises a prophetic voice against the ongoing oppression in Palestine. It explicitly modelled itself on the South African Kairos movement, which raised its voice against the apartheid regime. The original Kairos Document stands as the collective word of Christian Palestinians to the world; a cry of hope grounded in love, prayer, and unwavering faith in God. It speaks first to the Palestinian community and then calls upon churches and Christians everywhere to reject injustice and apartheid, and to work courageously for a just and lasting peace.

The first Kairos document was published in 2009. The authors said:
“We, a group of Christian Palestinians, after prayer, reflection and an exchange of opinion, cry out from within the suffering in our country, under the Israeli occupation, with a cry of hope in the absence of all hope, a cry full of prayer and faith in a God ever vigilant, in God’s divine providence for all the inhabitants of this land. Inspired by the mystery of God’s love for all, the mystery of God’s divine presence in the history of all peoples and, in a particular way, in the history of our country, we proclaim our word based on our Christian faith and our sense of Palestinian belonging – a word of faith, hope and love.”

This new Kairos document was published in 2025 and provides a renewed theological and spiritual reading of the Palestinian and global reality. It describes our present as a time of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement unfolding before the eyes of the world. It affirms that this moment demands a new stance—one of faith, truth, and responsibility.
“We live now in a time of genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement unfolding before the eyes of the world. This moment demands from us a new stand, one unlike any before it. It is both a decisive moment and a moment of truth. Today, we renew our stand for truth and our commitment to fundamental religious, theological and moral principles. We look at our reality and take a renewed stand, responding to the voice of the Holy Spirit deep within us, listening to the call of faith in this time of genocide. We renew our message of faith, hope, and love — offering a faith-inspired vision for the time after genocide.”
