NAZA – Collateral damage

“Naza” is a term used by the Israeli military, signifying “collateral damage” and referring to how many civilians might be killed during Israeli bombing in Gaza. Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor wrote and directed a documentary film using this term NAZA as its title. The film contains interviews with twenty-four Israeli military personnel who participated in the attacks in Gaza. The film premiered on September 10, 2026 at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and competed for the Golden Lion award. The film did not win the award but received a special jury award.

Abraham and Szor were also part of the team that produced the film “No Other Land”, documenting the destruction of the villages in the south Hebron district.

In an article about the film NAZA, Mahmoud Mushtaha, a Palestinian journalist from Gaza, currently based in the UK, writes:

“What surprised me wasn’t the massive scale of the killing, or even the coldness of it, but the proficiency. How practiced the soldiers in the film sounded as they described destroying other people’s lives, with the calm of someone discussing an errand they had carried out many times before.”
